EnBW, Germany’s energy supplier, has announced the operational milestone of 5,000 fast-charging points across the country, marking a significant step in its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure expansion.
Since launching its first units in 2016, EnBW has steadily increased its installation rate, with plans to add another 1,000 charging points by the end of this year. The company aims to accelerate growth to reach 6,000 fast chargers by year-end and has set a medium-term target of 30,000 points by 2030, a fivefold increase from 2024.
Colette Rückert-Hennen, EnBW board member overseeing e-mobility, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing extensive, nationwide fast-charging infrastructure. “Our guiding principle is geared towards the needs of users: Fast charging must be available where they are – where they shop, park or take a break on their long-distance journey,” Rückert-Hennen stated.
EnBW’s recent initiatives include the inauguration of a new hub in Heiligenhafen on the Baltic Sea, featuring twelve High Power Charging (HPC) points capable of delivering up to 300 kW. Earlier in the year, EnBW introduced the ‘NextLevel Ladepark’ in Lichtenau near Chemnitz, showcasing sustainable features such as low-CO2 transformers and recycled materials in construction.
The company reported a notable increase in 400 kW chargers deployed in the first half of 2024 compared to the previous year, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance charging capabilities.
