French charging provider Electra has commissioned its most powerful urban high-power charging site in Europe to date in Madrid. The Carabanchel Electralinera features 26 charging points with charging capacities of up to 600 kW and is designed to serve both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

The charging hub is located between Madrid’s A-42 and M-40 roads, providing access to major traffic routes. According to city officials, the site can simultaneously accommodate 22 passenger cars and four commercial vehicles in the N1 and N2 categories, covering electric vans and trucks with gross vehicle weights of up to 12 tonnes.

Charging Hub Uses Dynamic Power Distribution

Electra is using Alpitronic’s Hypercharger HYC1000 modular charging system at the site. The system separates central Power Cabinets from individual charging Dispensers, allowing available power to be distributed dynamically among vehicles.

Users can reserve a charging point up to one hour in advance through the Electra app. The site is also located near supermarkets, restaurants, fitness studios and other businesses, allowing customers to combine charging with other activities.

Solar Canopy and Battery Storage

The charging park includes a photovoltaic canopy with an installed capacity of 100 kWp. A battery storage system is also installed to help manage peak electricity demand.

The battery system is designed to absorb peak loads and support charging outputs of up to 600 kW without placing excessive demands on the local electricity grid.

€3 Million Investment

The charging site occupies approximately 5,500 square metres on municipal land awarded to Electra through a concession for the construction and operation of the infrastructure.

The concession covers an initial operating period of 15 years, with an option to extend it by another five years. According to the City of Madrid, Electra invested around €3 million in the project.

“We want to bring ultra-fast charging to the heart of the city so drivers can charge quickly, simply and reliably where they really need it,” said Bastien Verot, CEO of Electra Spain. “This project shows that collaboration between companies and public institutions is fundamental to accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility.”

Electra Expands Spanish Network

The Madrid opening further expands Electra’s presence in Spain. The company currently operates 18 Electralineras nationwide, including eight locations in the Madrid region.

Electra plans to continue expanding its Spanish fast-charging network, targeting 50 locations across the country by 2027.
