Eaton, an intelligent power management company, and ChargePoint, a U.S.-based provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, have unveiled a new ultrafast DC charging architecture designed to scale across North America and Europe. The ChargePoint Express Grid, powered by Eaton, will debut at the RE+ trade show on Sept. 9, featuring advanced vehicle-to-everything (V2X) capabilities and charging capacity of up to 600 kilowatts for passenger EVs, while also supporting megawatt charging for heavy-duty fleets.
The system, which integrates Eaton’s electrical solutions with ChargePoint’s Express platform, aims to address rising demand for efficient and reliable EV infrastructure. It offers a modular design that reduces capital expenditure and physical footprint by about 30%, while lowering operational costs by a similar margin compared to conventional charging systems. Orders for select customers will open in the first quarter of 2026, with deliveries expected in the second half of that year.
“This partnership is an accelerator for innovation in electrification, making going electric the smart choice,” said Paul Ryan, vice president and general manager of energy transition at Eaton. Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, highlighted the economic advantage of the system, adding, “The ChargePoint Express architecture will take DC fast charging to new levels of performance and cost, helping EVs win on pure economics.”
The Express Grid also introduces bidirectional charging capabilities, enabling EVs to serve as mobile energy assets by powering homes, buildings, or feeding electricity back to the grid during peak demand periods. The platform synchronizes renewable energy sources, battery storage, and EV batteries to balance supply, reduce fueling costs, and enhance grid stability. At scale, the system is designed to support utilities in managing load while accelerating the shift toward renewable power.
Eaton’s acquisition of Resilient Power Systems Inc. is expected to expand the technology further by incorporating solid-state transformers into the Express Grid in 2026, improving efficiency and integration for DC applications. The platform’s skid-mounted solutions also aim to simplify installation and speed up connections with distributed energy resources.
Since its founding in 2007, ChargePoint has connected drivers to more than 1.25 million charging ports globally, powering over 16 billion electric miles. Eaton, established in 1911, operates in more than 160 countries and brings over a century of experience in energy and power management. Together, the two companies say the collaboration will streamline charging deployments, create cost savings for fleets and station operators, and reinforce efforts to cut carbon emissions across the transportation sector.
