Denza has submitted a new battery-electric N8 sport utility vehicle for regulatory approval in China, reviving a model name that previously appeared as a plug-in hybrid.
The vehicle was included in the latest batch of new model filings published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on July 10. The documents list three battery-electric variants of the N8 ahead of its expected market introduction.
New N8 Adopts Battery-Electric Platform
According to the filing, the new N8 measures 5,150 millimeters in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm.
The model shares most of its dimensions and exterior styling with the recently introduced Denza N8L plug-in hybrid SUV, although the battery-electric version is 50 mm shorter overall. Unlike the six-seat N8L, the new N8 is configured with five seats.
The filing shows the SUV has a maximum speed of 240 kilometers per hour and will be available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
The rear-wheel-drive model is offered with electric motors producing either 320 kilowatts or 370 kilowatts.
The all-wheel-drive version is based on Denza’s e3 platform and uses a three-motor layout consisting of one front motor and two rear motors. The front motor is rated at 270 kW, while each rear motor delivers 310 kW, resulting in a combined output of up to 890 kW.
Equipped With Updated Battery and Charging Technology
Denza said the new N8 will use BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery together with the company’s flash-charging system.
The automaker said the charging technology is designed to support rapid charging while maintaining charging performance in low-temperature environments. It did not disclose battery capacity, driving range or charging specifications in the regulatory filing.
N8 Returns to Denza’s Lineup
The latest filing brings the N8 nameplate back to Denza’s portfolio after the previous plug-in hybrid version was withdrawn from the market less than a year after its introduction.
The original N8 was launched in August 2023 as a plug-in hybrid SUV with a starting price of 319,800 yuan.
The new battery-electric model reflects Denza’s continued expansion of its premium electric vehicle lineup as the brand broadens its offering in China’s competitive EV market.
Vehicles included in MIIT’s public filing process typically proceed toward commercial launch after completing regulatory approval, although Denza has not announced a launch date for the new N8.
