Daimler Truck has launched a new phase in its decarbonisation strategy by deploying 14 battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks for long-haul factory deliveries. The move marks an expansion of the company’s inbound logistics electrification programme, which now includes cross-border transport routes and long-distance supply chains.
The eActros 600 units are operated by a dozen logistics partners and will support deliveries to Daimler Truck’s manufacturing plants in Wörth am Rhein, Gaggenau, Kassel, and Mannheim. These vehicles extend the company’s existing electric logistics network, which already includes around 40 routes serviced by the shorter-range eActros 300 and 400 models.
The initiative falls under the internal project Electrify Inbound Logistics, which aims to fully transition Daimler Truck’s factory logistics to zero-emission transport over the next several years. Routes covered by the new eActros 600 trucks span distances from 150 to 600 kilometres, including international routes to and from Italy, the Czech Republic, and Luxembourg. Vehicles will charge at public stations as well as at Daimler Truck depots and haulier facilities.
The participating logistics companies include major freight and haulage firms such as Duvenbeck, Lkw Walter, Fercam, and Gruber Logistics, among others. Daimler Truck said the official rollout was marked by a simultaneous departure of all 14 eActros 600 trucks toward the Wörth plant.
While Daimler Truck recently announced job cuts and cost-saving measures in Germany, the company has reiterated its commitment to sustainable logistics. In 2024 alone, its battery-electric trucks are reported to have driven two million kilometres across regional routes, accounting for over 100 daily plant entries. That number is expected to increase to 2.5 million kilometres per year with the addition of the eActros 600.
To support the expansion, the company is also increasing its charging infrastructure. Eight new fast-charging stations are planned for installation this year at its German sites, supplementing the existing 26 chargers already operational. The rollout is managed by Daimler Truck’s charging brand, TruckCharge.
The eActros 600, now in series production in Wörth since November, is equipped with a 621 kWh LFP battery enabling up to 500 kilometres of range. Charging currently reaches up to 400 kW via CCS, with the trucks also prepared for future megawatt charging systems (MCS), which will enable charging rates of over 1,000 kW.
