Croatia’s State Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency will provide €21.2 million in subsidies to commercial buyers for the purchase of zero-emission vehicles, offering financial incentives of between €2,500 and €9,000 per vehicle or up to 40% of the vehicle’s price.
Unlike neighbouring Slovenia, which recently introduced subsidies open to all electric vehicle buyers, Croatia’s programme is restricted to companies. The scheme also accommodates larger fleets, with a maximum subsidy cap of €90,000 per company. Eligible vehicles include electric and hydrogen-powered models, covering not only passenger cars and vans but also buses and trucks.
For smaller vehicles in the L category, such as electric mopeds (L1e-B) and microcars with up to 15 kW (L7e), subsidies will amount to €2,500. Passenger cars and minibuses in the M1 category, as well as vans in N1, will qualify for up to €9,000 per vehicle or 40% of its value, provided the purchase price does not exceed €50,000 excluding VAT. Larger vehicles in the M2, M3, N2, and N3 categories, including buses and heavy-duty trucks, will be eligible for co-financing of up to 40%.
The start date for applications will be announced later, with the funding window set to remain open until May 31, 2026. Road haulage and taxi companies are excluded from the scheme, as a separate €45 million programme for these sectors is being prepared by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition. The ministry also plans, in cooperation with the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to invest an additional €45 million in transport decarbonisation through financial instruments.
