CATL, the world’s largest electric vehicle battery maker, has opened a new energy after-sales service facility in Riyadh, marking a significant step in its expansion across the Middle East as demand for electric vehicles and energy storage systems grows in the region.

The facility, which opened on Saturday, is CATL’s first new energy after-sales service center in the Middle East and currently its largest outside China, the company said in a statement. Named the Ning Service Experience Center, the site spans more than 7,000 square metres and is designed to provide full-lifecycle after-sales support for batteries used in electric vehicles and energy storage applications.

The Riyadh center integrates exhibition areas, diagnostic and maintenance zones, refurbishment facilities, training spaces and customer lounges. It builds on CATL’s strategy launched in August 2024, when the company opened its first experience center, Ning Space, in Chengdu in southwest China and introduced its Ning Service after-sales brand, offering battery maintenance, health checks and mobile assistance.

The expansion comes as Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries pursue electrification and decarbonisation targets under national strategies such as the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Saudi Arabia has set a goal for electric vehicles to account for 30% of traffic in Riyadh by 2030, as part of efforts to cut the capital’s carbon emissions by half. Progress, however, continues to face challenges including limited charging infrastructure, extreme climate conditions and high electricity demand.

“Starting from here, CATL will continue to expand its after-sales service network across the Middle East, aligning closely with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030,” said Bruce Li, president of the quality system, aftermarket business and battery management system department at CATL.

CATL said its Ning Service network now operates 10 training centres worldwide, covering a total area of about 2,300 square metres, and has certified more than 9,700 new energy after-sales professionals through partnerships with vocational institutions. Globally, the company maintains more than 1,200 specialised service stations and 73 spare parts warehouses across 76 countries, underscoring its push to support customers beyond battery supply.
