Baidu’s autonomous driving unit Apollo Go and UAE-based mobility company K2 have launched a fully driverless ride-hailing service on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, marking the start of commercial robotaxi operations without a human safety driver in the emirate. The service, operated through K2’s AutoGo app, follows the granting of one of Abu Dhabi’s first permits for fully autonomous commercial operations in mid-November 2025. Delta Electronics has launched a new 350-kilowatt high-power charging system for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, expanding its portfolio of fast-charging solutions for electric passenger cars and commercial vehicles. CATL, the world’s largest electric vehicle battery maker, has opened a new energy after-sales service facility in Riyadh, marking a significant step in its expansion across the Middle East as demand for electric vehicles and energy storage systems grows in the region. China’s new energy vehicle maker BYD has formally entered the Iraqi automotive market, holding a brand launch event in Baghdad on Dec. 24 to mark its official debut, the company said in a statement. The launch comes despite several BYD models already being available in Iraq through earlier channels. Chinese autonomous driving company WeRide and Uber Technologies have launched public robotaxi services in Dubai, allowing passengers to book autonomous rides directly through the Uber app, the companies said, as the emirate pushes to expand self-driving transport. The rollout is being carried out in coordination with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and initially covers parts of Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, two busy districts near major tourist and residential areas.
