Italian atelier Caselani has revealed its latest retro conversion kit, the ‘Type-Ami,’ transforming the electric Citroen Ami into a miniature version of the iconic Citroen Type H van. The Type-Ami, which mimics the corrugated metal look of the 1948-1981 Type H, was showcased at the Retromobile trade fair in Paris.
The conversion kit, which will be available in various colors, is designed to give the Ami a distinctive retro appearance without altering the electric vehicle’s original structure. Made from fiberglass parts, the kit can be easily attached to Ami models using brackets and screws, whether the vehicle is new or pre-owned.

Prices for the conversion start at 4,440 euros net for the body kit, or 5,100 euros with paintwork. A fully converted Type-Ami is priced at 11,390 euros net. However, Caselani is currently only accepting pre-orders, with final arrangements with Citroen still in progress.
While the Type-Ami boasts a completely transformed exterior with a front mask, rear apron, and ridged door panels, the electric motor and battery remain unchanged. The Ami will likely become slightly longer and heavier due to the added body parts, potentially leading to higher energy consumption.

This is not Caselani’s first retro-inspired creation for Citroen. In 2022, the company unveiled the ë-Berlingo 2CV Fourgonnette, which also featured a vintage Citroen design.
Caselani has also produced a modern successor to the Type H, based on the Citroen Jumper, though unlike the Type-Ami, the Type H van is not electric.
