BYD’s premium electric vehicle brand Yangwang is set to introduce upgraded versions of its U7 sedan featuring significantly larger battery packs, as the automaker continues to strengthen its presence in the high-end segment, according to regulatory filings released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The updated Yangwang U7 will be offered with two battery-electric variants, equipped with either a 135.5-kilowatt-hour or a 150.01-kilowatt-hour battery pack. The larger configuration delivers a CLTC-rated driving range of up to 1,006 kilometers, positioning it among the longest-range electric sedans currently available in China. The smaller battery option offers a rated range of 800 kilometers. According to the filings, the two battery packs weigh 903 kg and 926 kg respectively, with energy densities of 150 Wh/kg and 162 Wh/kg.

In addition to the battery-electric variants, the U7 will continue to be offered in a plug-in hybrid configuration featuring a 52.4-kWh battery pack that provides a pure-electric range of 200 kilometers under the CLTC standard. The expanded lineup makes the U7 the longest-range model currently under BYD’s Yangwang brand.
The U7, which debuted in March 2025, is the first sedan under the Yangwang marque. It is built on BYD’s e4 platform and powered by four electric motors delivering a combined output of 960 kW and peak torque of 1,584 Nm, enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 2.9 seconds. The model measures 5,265 mm in length with a 3,160 mm wheelbase and sits above most domestic premium sedans in size and performance.

Yangwang’s current lineup also includes the U8 off-road SUV and the U9 electric supercar, both positioned above the U7 in pricing. The U7 remains the brand’s most accessible offering, with current versions priced from RMB 628,000 ($89,800). The expanded battery options underline BYD’s push to reinforce Yangwang’s position in the ultra-luxury electric segment while competing with high-end global brands.
