BYD’s premium sub-brand Yangwang has commenced production of its ultra-luxury U7 sedan, with the first batch of customer vehicles now off the assembly line. The announcement was made via the brand’s official Weibo account, with customer deliveries expected to begin shortly.
The Yangwang U7 was officially launched on March 27 with a starting price of RMB 628,000 ($87,240), notably lower than the RMB 1 million threshold previously mentioned by the company. The vehicle is available in both battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configurations, and comes in four-seat and five-seat versions.
Built on Yangwang’s proprietary e4 technology platform, the U7 features four electric motors each delivering 240 kW, for a total output of 960 kW (1,300 horsepower) and peak torque of 1,584 Nm. This setup propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Measuring 5,265 mm long with a 3,160 mm wheelbase, the U7 also features the brand’s top-tier DiSus-Z body control system, which BYD claims provides ride comfort surpassing that of maglev technology.
On May 27, a second batch of U7 vehicles for test drives arrived in 48 cities across China, expanding visibility of the model ahead of customer deliveries. Alongside the U7, Yangwang’s lineup includes the U8 off-road SUV priced from RMB 1.098 million and the U9 electric supercar starting at RMB 1.68 million.
