BYD has unveiled the third-generation Tang SUV at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, updating one of the key models in its Dynasty lineup ahead of a planned fourth-quarter launch. The five-seat mid-to-large SUV uses BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, with a claimed CLTC range of up to 850 km.
Tang Expands Dynasty Flagship SUV Lineup
The third-generation Tang is positioned as an 8-series flagship model within BYD’s Dynasty range. It will be sold alongside the 9-series Da Tang, which launched in June, creating a two-model flagship SUV strategy for the lineup.
The new Tang measures 5,045 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and 1,760 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.
BYD plans to begin sales of the third-generation model in the fourth quarter.
Up to 850 Km CLTC Range
The new Tang is equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology.
Two battery pack capacities are available: 88.682 kWh and 105.792 kWh. Depending on configuration, the SUV offers claimed CLTC ranges of 730 km, 830 km or 850 km.
Under normal temperature conditions, BYD says the battery can charge from 10% to 70% in approximately five minutes and reach 97% in about nine minutes. Charging takes roughly three additional minutes under extremely cold conditions.
A version previously submitted to Chinese regulators was listed with a single electric motor producing up to 300 kW, equivalent to 402 hp, and a top speed of 250 km/h.
DiSus-A Suspension and God’s Eye B
The third-generation Tang shares BYD’s DiSus-A intelligent air suspension body control system with the Da Tang.
The system includes dual-chamber air suspension and an intelligent road-preview function designed to adjust the vehicle’s response to road conditions.
All versions of the new Tang come standard with BYD’s God’s Eye B driver-assistance system.
The system incorporates one LiDAR sensor and supports navigation-assisted driving on urban roads and highways, as well as automated parking.
BYD Refreshes Tang Family
The third-generation Tang arrives after a period of weaker sales for the Tang family, increasing the importance of the redesign as BYD updates its flagship Dynasty vehicles.
BYD has accelerated the renewal of the nameplate since last year. The Da Tang EV launched on June 17 with a starting price of 239,900 yuan ($35,370) and a claimed CLTC range of up to 950 km. Deliveries exceeded 10,000 units roughly one month after its launch.
BYD also unveiled the Da Han EV at the Chengdu Auto Show and opened pre-sales for the Dynasty 9-series flagship sedan. The model has a claimed range of up to 1,008 km.
Chengdu Auto Show Showcases BYD Flagships
The 2026 Chengdu International Motor Show runs from August 21 to August 30.
BYD is displaying its vehicles in a dedicated pavilion in Hall 9, where the third-generation Tang joins the company’s latest Dynasty flagship models.
The Tang update adds another long-range electric SUV to BYD’s flagship lineup while introducing the company’s latest battery, charging, suspension and driver-assistance technologies ahead of its planned market launch later this year.
