BYD has introduced the B13.b electric intercity bus, an upgraded version of its B13 model, featuring the company’s proprietary Blade Battery Chassis and offering a range of up to 700 kilometres on a single charge. The new model made its European debut at the UITP Summit in Hamburg.
The B13.b is BYD’s latest zero-emission solution for long-distance passenger transport and follows the B12, which premiered at Busworld Europe in 2023. The bus is based on a cell-to-chassis platform that integrates the LFP battery directly into the vehicle’s structural frame. This design allows for a maximum battery capacity of 560 kWh – a 54 kWh increase over its predecessor – and improves overall energy density and layout efficiency.
“With this new model, we’re offering operators a cleaner, longer-range option for intercity travel that also benefits from BYD’s latest advancements in battery integration and power electronics,” the company said at the launch.
Measuring 13.2 metres in length, the B13.b can accommodate up to 78 passengers, with seating for 49. It is powered by two 150 kW hub motors and available with two battery variants: a 560 kWh version offering up to 700 km of range, and a 476 kWh version delivering a range of up to 620 km under the SORT testing cycle.
Charging options include standard 192 kW DC charging on one or both sides and compatibility with pantograph fast-charging systems at up to 500 kW. The bus also incorporates a 6-in-1 powertrain controller with silicon carbide components and hairpin-wound motors for improved efficiency.
The B13.b further solidifies BYD’s push into European markets, where demand for long-range, zero-emission public transport solutions continues to grow.
