BYD to announce three new electric vehicles by 2022

Chinese battery and electric car maker BYD is rumored to be announcing three new electric vehicles by 2022.

Quoted by Gizmochina, Monday, several media in China have reported about rumors of the upcoming model from the car manufacturer. The leaked information says the electric vehicles will be named BYD Seal, BYD Seagull, and BYD Sea Lion.

For the BYD Seal, it will be announced in Q1 2022 in China, with a price rumored to be around 150,000 to 200,000 RMB.

This fully electric sedan is aimed at the mid-range market and is claimed to be the unofficial successor to the BYD Dolphin which was revealed in August 2021.

Reports from China indicate that the BYD Seal will be 4,770 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,460 mm high, with a wheelbase that will measure 2,900 mm. BYD will offer it an 800 volt battery pack that provides a range of up to 700 km. Electric vehicles can also come in two variants, namely RWD and AWD.

The AWD variant allows the vehicle to reach a fast 0-100 km/h acceleration time in just 3 seconds (3.3 or 3.4 seconds).

The AWD variant will use two motors, one producing 200 kW and one producing 160 kW, while the RWD variant will be available with two motor options, 150 kW and 180 kW, according to reports.

For BYD Seagull, it will be announced in Q2 2022 in China. Aimed at entry-level consumers who don’t want to spend a fortune on electric vehicles, the BYD Seagull is a mini electric vehicle priced between 60,000 and 80,000 RMB.

There were no further details about the BYD Seagull electric vehicle in the report.

For BYD Sea Lion, it will be announced in Q3 2022 in China. As the company’s premium flagship electric vehicle this year, the BYD Sea Lion is expected to be a full electric SUV rumored to be selling for around 200,000 to 250,000 RMB.

The vehicle will reportedly be an electric SUV competing with the Tesla Model Y, which places it above the Yuan Plus in BYD’s lineup.

With three new EV models to be released in 2022, in addition to the announcement of Japanese automaker Toyota partnering with BYD to help develop its cars in 2022, BYD’s growth is expected to continue in the Chinese market and could even have an impact on the global industry this year as well. .
