BYD Starts mass production of Seal electric sedan in June

BYD will start mass production of the Seal electric sedan this month, with a monthly capacity of 15,000 units, according to the Weibo post of Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, on June 12.

The BYD Seal is a mid-size electric sedan that uses the e-platform 3.0 architecture. This electric sedan is the second model in BYD’s Marine Life EV range, after the Dolphin.

BYD Seal comes with pre-sale prices ranging from 212,800 yuan to 289,800 yuan ($31,582 ā€“ $43,010). BYD recorded 22,637 orders for the Seal electric sedan within seven hours of pre-sales opening on May 20.

BYD Seal adopts CTB (cell-to-body) technology, iTAC technology and rear-wheel drive architecture for the first time. In the central control, Corsair uses the latest DiLink intelligent network connection with a 15.6-inch Adaptive Rotating Suspension Pad, which can support 5G network connection.

Data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the BYD Seal is available in three power versions:

  • 550km range version with one motor at the rear, 150kW total power and 310N-m total torque, and acceleration. time 7.5 seconds;
  • a 700km range version with a single motor at the rear, a total power of 230kW and total torque increased to 360N-m, and an acceleration time of 5.9 seconds;
  • 650km range version with dual motors front and rear, 390kW total power and 670N-m total torque, and 3.8 seconds acceleration time.

Data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on June 10 showed that passenger car sales in China reached 1.354 million in May, down 16.9% over the same month last year. The decline was caused by the lockdown policy which had an impact on the supply chain and production.

BYD’s total sales came in second this month, with retail sales of 114,000 vehicles, representing a year-on-year increase of 159.5 percent.
