BYD has produced its one millionth Seagull compact electric vehicle, the company announced at a ceremony on Monday, marking a major milestone for its most affordable model to date. The achievement comes just over a year after the Seagull’s market debut in April 2023.
Initially launched in China with a starting price of RMB 73,800 ($10,300), the Seagull has quickly become a key driver of BYD’s entry-level EV sales. In February, the company introduced a Smart Driving Edition with three variants priced between RMB 69,800 and RMB 85,800.

At the event commemorating the production milestone, BYD unveiled an additional variant priced at RMB 78,800, featuring a CLTC-rated range of 405 kilometers. This version matches the highest-range model but omits several features such as panoramic imaging, a dashcam, and sentinel mode.
Global milestone unlocked: One million strong.
The 1,000,000th BYD DOLPHIN MINI, also known as the BYD SEAGULL and BYD DOLPHIN SURF, has officially rolled off the production line.

The automaker is offering flexible financing options for domestic buyers, including 0 percent down payments and 0 interest loans, as well as incentives such as national trade-in subsidies of up to RMB 20,000 and an additional RMB 4,000 from BYD.

Internationally, the Seagull was introduced in 15 European markets at the end of June under the name Dolphin Surf. This marks the company’s tenth model offering in Europe. Pricing ranges from €22,990 ($26,940) for the 322-kilometer version to €24,990 for the 507-kilometer variant.
The rapid production scale and global expansion of the Seagull reflect BYD’s broader strategy to consolidate its position in the budget EV segment both in China and overseas.
