BYD unveiled its new Seal 08 sedan on Thursday, introducing a mid-to-large-size electric vehicle equipped with the company’s latest battery and charging technologies as it expands its Ocean product lineup.

The Seal 08 is expected to officially launch in China in the second quarter of the year. The model is positioned as a core product within BYD’s Ocean series and forms part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the premium electric vehicle segment.

Built on an 800-volt high-voltage architecture, the Seal 08 is equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and is expected to deliver a driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometres on a single charge.

The vehicle also supports megawatt-level flash-charging technology. According to BYD, the system can add around 400 kilometres of driving range after approximately five minutes of charging.

In terms of design, the Seal 08 adopts styling elements from the Ocean-S concept vehicle. The sedan measures 5,150 millimetres in length and has a wheelbase of 3,030 millimetres.

A roof-mounted LiDAR unit indicates that the model will support BYD’s God’s Eye B advanced driver assistance system.

The vehicle also integrates rear-wheel steering and the DiSus-A intelligent body control system, technologies intended to improve handling performance and driving stability.

For performance, the all-wheel-drive version of the Seal 08 is expected to deliver more than 480 kilowatts of maximum output, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in under five seconds.

BYD provided limited additional details about the model during the launch event. Further specifications and pricing information are expected to be announced closer to the vehicle’s official market launch.

The Seal 08 forms part of BYD’s broader product expansion within its Ocean lineup. The company is also planning to introduce the Sealion 08 sport utility vehicle as part of the same series.

BYD’s Ocean series recorded sales of more than 2.22 million vehicles in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 14.05%. By comparison, the company’s Dynasty lineup sold about 1.88 million units during the same period.

BYD said the introduction of new models equipped with updated technologies is expected to help optimise its product portfolio and support continued sales growth.
