Buick, a brand under General Motors, has previewed the Electra L7 extended-range electric sedan in China, marking the brand’s entry into the growing market for extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).

The Electra L7 is expected to be priced around RMB 300,000 ($41,790) and will be built by SAIC-GM at its Wuhan facility in Hubei province.

The mid-to-large-sized sedan measures 5,032 mm in length, 1,952 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. It is based on the Xiao Yao Super Architecture, a new platform unveiled in April when Buick also introduced its Electra sub-brand.

The L7 will be the first joint-venture vehicle in China to feature LiDAR, and it will also incorporate Momenta’s smart driving system and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8755 cockpit chip for advanced onboard computing.

According to regulatory filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Electra L7 is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine from SAIC-GM delivering up to 115 kW, paired with an electric motor that produces 252 kW. The model supports a top speed of 200 km/h and carries a curb weight between 2,105 and 2,140 kilograms. Power is supplied by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from Zenergy Battery.

Buick becomes the latest global automaker to embrace EREV technology in China, joining Toyota, Volkswagen, and Mazda, all of which have recently announced similar strategies for the world’s largest automotive market.
