Roadchef has reached an agreement with BP covering electric vehicle charging, fuels and convenience services across the UK motorway network. From 2027, BP Pulse ultra-fast charging will be available at more than 30 Roadchef motorway service areas.
The agreement is designed to expand access to high-speed EV charging for drivers travelling across the UK while supporting Roadchef’s goal of providing 1,000 charging bays by 2030.
BP to Operate 12 Forecourts
As part of the agreement, Roadchef will operate 12 BP forecourts. The sites will continue to offer BP-branded fuels alongside BP’s Wild Bean Cafe convenience food service.
Roadchef Chief Executive Tim Gittins said the partnership will support the expansion of BP Pulse ultra-fast charging across the company’s motorway service locations.
“Under the UK’s transition to zero-emission vehicles, motorway service areas will play a critical role in improving the availability of en-route charging points,” said Tim Gittins.
Gittins said the agreement will make charging more accessible across Roadchef’s network while also bringing BP-branded forecourts under Roadchef’s operation.
“It will also bring bp-branded forecourts under Roadchef’s operation, strengthening our fuels and convenience food offer for leisure and HGV drivers. Together, these changes will help us serve more drivers and give the business the scale and capability to meet the growing demand for EV charging across the UK,” he added.
Roadchef Expands Its EV Charging Plans
Roadchef announced an investment in October 2024 to install 650 new fast-charging stations at its UK motorway service areas. The initiative formed part of a £20 billion infrastructure package assembled by financial services provider Macquarie.
Roadchef has also been working with Gridserve on the development of Electric Super Hubs. The companies began construction of hubs at six UK locations in 2023, with the sites planned to provide more than 50 EV chargers.
The latest agreement with BP Pulse adds another element to Roadchef’s broader charging expansion as the company works toward its 2030 target.
BP Brings Charging and Convenience Services Together
The agreement also builds on the existing fuel supply relationship between BP and Roadchef, combining fuel, convenience and EV charging services across the motorway network.
Jo Hayward, VP Mobility and Convenience Retail UK at BP, said the partnership would bring the companies’ different offerings together at Roadchef locations.
“We’re excited to be working with Roadchef, building further on our already strong fuel supply relationship and bringing all our offers together to help give drivers what they want, when and where they want it on their journeys,” said Hayward.
The planned expansion will give EV drivers access to BP Pulse ultra-fast charging at more Roadchef motorway service areas from 2027, while Roadchef continues to develop its wider charging network.
