Bosch, a leading name in the premium electric bicycle drivetrain market, is set to strengthen its position with the launch of several innovative products tailored for electric mountain bikes (eMTBs). The company’s latest offerings include an advanced motor system and larger battery options designed to enhance performance on rugged trails.
At the forefront of these unveilings is the next evolutionary step of the Performance Line CX, a flagship motor system that has undergone significant enhancements over nearly a decade. The latest iteration is equipped with “sensitive sensor technology,” which Bosch claims will provide “dynamics on a whole new level.” This advanced drive unit measures pedal input more than 1,000 times per second, utilizing a combination of cadence, torque, and inertial sensors. Additionally, it can detect incline angles and vibrations to optimize power delivery, making it especially beneficial for mountainous terrains.
“With 85 Newton meters of torque, a maximum power of 600 watts, and up to 340 percent support, the new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) delivers the ideal balance of power, dynamics, efficiency, and range,” said Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems. He highlighted that this new drive unit allows athletic eBike riders to experience unique riding dynamics, enabling sensitive starts on steep trails and controlled exits from curves.
Another notable enhancement is the quieter gearbox in the new drive system, which has been fine-tuned for a balanced power delivery while minimizing noise. The external drivetrain can decouple during downhill rides, further reducing sound levels.
To complement the new drivetrain, Bosch has introduced the Purion 400 display, featuring a 1.6-inch screen specifically designed for eMTBs. This display is strategically tucked behind the handlebars to protect it from damage during crashes and provides crucial data about speed and performance.
Bosch has also unveiled the PowerTube 800, its largest electric bicycle battery to date, capable of providing dual-battery e-bikes with an impressive 1,600 Wh of capacity. While many lower-end e-bikes are beginning to adopt larger battery capacities, Bosch’s approach has traditionally focused on efficiency over sheer power. The new PowerTube 800 matches the capacity of some of the largest batteries on the market, which will enhance the performance of premium e-bikes without sacrificing efficiency.
In addition to the PowerTube 800, Bosch announced the PowerTube 600 for those who require less capacity and the PowerMore 250, a compact auxiliary battery designed to fit into a water bottle holder for occasional use. With these advancements, Bosch is poised to elevate the eMTB riding experience, ensuring that enthusiasts have access to cutting-edge technology and enhanced performance on their adventures.
