The BMW Group maintained its growth trajectory in 2024, delivering 426,594 all-electric vehicles (BEVs) globally, marking a 13.5% increase over the previous year. The BMW brand itself achieved double-digit BEV growth, with 368,523 units sold, up 11.6% from the 330,596 deliveries recorded in 2023.

While the overall growth rate remains positive, it reflects a moderation compared to previous years. In 2022, the BMW Group saw a 108% year-on-year increase in BEV sales, followed by a 74.4% rise in 2023. Despite this deceleration, BMW’s BEV deliveries now approach the total group-wide BEV sales from just two years prior, showcasing the expanding role of electric models within the company’s portfolio. At a group level, BEVs accounted for 17.4% of total vehicle sales in 2024, with the BMW brand achieving a 16.7% share.

Electric vehicle sales for BMW’s Mini and Rolls-Royce brands also registered significant growth. Mini sold 56,181 BEVs, reflecting a 24.3% increase year-over-year, with EVs comprising 22.9% of total Mini deliveries. Rolls-Royce, buoyed by the first full year of Spectre sales, recorded an unprecedented 479.6% surge in electric vehicle sales. The luxury marque is set to expand its electric lineup with a second model planned for 2025.

Despite the positive results, BMW faced challenges in the latter half of 2024, including delivery disruptions linked to its Integrated Brake System (IBS) and slower demand in China. The company provided limited details about regional BEV sales, though it noted double-digit growth in markets like Italy, France, and the UK.

Looking ahead, Jochen Goller, BMW AG’s Board Member for Customer, Brands, and Sales, expressed confidence in maintaining BEV growth in 2025, supported by an expanded product lineup and rising orders in Europe. While no specific target was disclosed, BMW aims to meet its previously stated ambition of 25% EV share by 2025, following a slight miss of its 2024 target of 20%.
