BMW Group has launched a commercial vehicle-to-grid (V2G) offering in Germany for its upcoming Neue Klasse electric vehicles, extending its long-standing partnership with E.ON into bidirectional charging services for private customers.
The offering, which follows a pilot announcement at IAA Mobility in September 2025, allows customers to order a complete V2G package comprising the BMW Wallbox Professional, an E.ON electricity tariff with a V2G feed-in contract, and an intelligent metering system where required.

The system enables eligible Neue Klasse vehicles equipped with BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology—starting with the BMW iX3—to feed electricity from their high-voltage batteries back into the power grid. Charging and discharging are managed automatically via an algorithm jointly developed by BMW and E.ON.
Under the compensation model, customers receive an annual bonus of up to €720 based on the time their vehicle is connected to the bidirectional wallbox with V2G activated, regardless of whether electricity is charged or discharged. Electricity fed back into the grid is compensated at €0.40 per kilowatt-hour, according to BMW.

“The first commercial V2G offer in Germany marks a groundbreaking milestone, linking electromobility with the energy transition,” said Filip Thon, adding that the programme allows private customers to use electric vehicles as flexible energy storage.
BMW said vehicle owners retain control over charging targets and mobility needs through the My BMW App, which also displays real-time bonus accumulation. The company said integrated battery-management safeguards are designed to keep the high-voltage battery within an optimal operating range.
“With the Neue Klasse, BMW vehicles become an active part of the energy ecosystem for the first time,” said Marcus Krieg. “Their technology enables intelligent storage and return of energy to the grid, reducing customer costs while supporting renewable energy integration.”

As part of an introductory promotion, BMW said the first 100 customers ordering the E.ON V2G tariff will receive a €700 discount on the BMW Wallbox Professional, an 11 kW bidirectional wallbox.
In parallel, BMW and E.ON are also offering a separate tariff-based smart-charging option for all BMW and MINI electric models in Germany, allowing vehicles to charge automatically during periods of low electricity prices. BMW said customers using the compatible E.ON tariff could reduce annual home-charging costs by up to €240, with an additional bonus for new customers.

BMW said the V2G programme is intended to support grid stability by allowing vehicle batteries to absorb surplus renewable electricity or supply power during periods of high demand, potentially lowering long-term system costs while expanding the role of electric vehicles in energy markets.
