Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) has ordered an additional 270 articulated electric buses from Solaris, further expanding its transition to zero-emission public transport. The order follows the delivery of an initial batch of 50 Solaris Urbino 18 electric buses under a framework agreement signed in December 2023.
The agreement allows for the procurement of up to 700 articulated electric buses over an eight-year period, depending on demand and operational priorities. The new order significantly scales up BVG’s commitment to sustainable mobility in the German capital.
Christian Goll, Managing Director of Solaris Deutschland GmbH, said, “Fleet electrification and infrastructure modernization are key challenges faced by public transport operators across Europe today. BVG is tackling them in an exemplary way, consistently investing in the best zero-emission solutions available on the market.” He added, “Being awarded another – and record-breaking – order by BVG is a strong sign of our successful and long-standing partnership.”
The newly ordered buses will be equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries, and feature flexible charging options including a standard plug-in socket and a pantograph system. These capabilities are designed to support high-frequency operations and enhance service reliability across BVG’s network.
Berlin’s transport authority continues to invest in clean mobility as part of the city’s broader climate and air quality goals. With this latest order, BVG reinforces its role as one of the largest operators of electric buses in Germany.
