Beep, Inc. has launched the United States’ first fully autonomous public transportation system, marking a major milestone in urban mobility. Operating under a five-year agreement with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), Beep’s new service—called the Neighborhood Autonomous Vehicle Innovation (NAVI)—is now active in Florida’s largest city.
The NAVI service forms a key component of JTA’s Ultimate Urban Circulator (U2C) program and operates along a 3.5-mile corridor on Bay Street, linking Jacksonville’s Central Business Core with the Sports and Entertainment District. The system deploys a fleet of 14 electric Ford E-Transit vehicles, all equipped with Oxa’s autonomous driving software and supervised by Beep’s proprietary AutonomOS™ platform. The vehicles are ADA-compliant, offering accessible mobility while supporting first- and last-mile transit needs in the city’s lower-density downtown areas.
The launch coincides with Beep’s announcement of a $52.7 million funding round co-led by Intel Capital and Blue Lagoon Capital. This brings the company’s total capital raised to $97.7 million, providing additional support for expansion into new urban and rural markets.
JTA’s CEO has stated that the introduction of NAVI aligns with the agency’s mission to modernize downtown transportation through safer, more sustainable, and multimodal infrastructure. The program is expected to improve urban connectivity and reduce traffic congestion, emissions, and travel times across Jacksonville.
With 38 autonomous shuttle deployments completed across nine U.S. states, Beep’s record in shared mobility continues to grow. The recent appointment of Kevin Reid, previously Chairman of the company, to the role of CEO is intended to accelerate strategic development and market expansion. Beep’s approach remains vehicle-agnostic, allowing integration with multiple autonomous vehicle types and advancing its goal of reshaping the future of public transit.
