Avatr, the electric vehicle (EV) brand supported by Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, has unveiled a glimpse of its upcoming model, signaling a shift towards extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) from its current lineup of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The company announced on Weibo that it will introduce the Avatr 07 SUV, which will be available in both BEV and EREV variants, marking a significant expansion of its product offerings.
The Avatr 07 will join Avatr’s existing lineup, which includes the Avatr 11 SUV and Avatr 12 sedan, as the brand’s third model and its first to offer both BEV and EREV options.
This strategic move underscores Avatr’s response to market demands and its ambition to enhance sales by incorporating fuel tanks into its EVs, addressing range anxiety concerns that have been a barrier to BEV adoption.
Avatr’s decision to venture into EREVs reflects a broader trend in China’s EV market, where plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) have gained popularity due to their extended range and reduced range anxiety compared to BEVs.
An EREV functions similarly to a PHEV but relies solely on batteries for power, offering drivers a BEV-like driving experience with the added benefit of an extended range.
The Avatr 07 will be offered in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations, catering to different driving preferences and needs.
In terms of dimensions, the Avatr 07 measures 4,825 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,940 mm, positioning it as a versatile and spacious SUV option.
Huawei’s next-generation LiDAR technology and CATL’s advanced supercharging batteries will power the Avatr 07, enhancing its performance, efficiency, and technological capabilities.
While Avatr has not disclosed further details about the Avatr 07, reports suggest that the model is slated for release in the third quarter, with an estimated price range of between RMB 250,000 ($34,600) and RMB 350,000.
