Canada Post has announced their electrification plans. Canada Post targets to convert their fleet of 14,000 vehicles to all-electric vehicles by 2040. Half of their delivery fleet should be electric by 2030. Canada Post is currently piloting several electric and emission-free vehicles that are projected to make up its fleet. One of the piloted vehicles is a delivery vehicle for urban areas with a top speed of 40 km/hour. The vehicle will be piloted for city delivery for one year. Tesla Inc has partnered with Samsung Electro-Mechanics to install camera sensors in self-driving systems in Tesla electric cars. Samsung has set aside 5 trillion won or US$4 billion to supply 80 percent of the camera sensors integrated into Tesla’s self-driving electric vehicle systems such as the Model S, Model Y, Model X and Model 3. The Western Australian Police are now officially operating the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Toyota Mirai for the patrol fleet. These two cars will be tested extensively to see if the car is ready to be used as a police patrol fleet in the area. Last year Hyundai showcased its autonomous Level 4 self-driving Ioniq 5 and now Hyundai is piloting an autonomous rideshare service called “RoboRide” in Gangnam district, Seoul, South Korea. The pilot project uses two Ioniq 5s with level 4 autonomous driving technology and a backup safety driver. Hyundai did not say when it might stop requiring a safe driver. The city’s mayor and local officials were the first RoboRide passengers as they were carried along the route in the Gangnam district, the only one where the service is currently offered. MAN Truck & Bus plans to offer electric bus chassis for the global market. In the early stages, MAN will offer low-floor, low-entry, and inter-city buses.
