Ford Motor is developing a new electric vehicle platform that will underpin a $30,000 midsize EV pickup, as the automaker seeks to compete with Tesla and China’s BYD in the affordable electric segment. Production is slated to begin in 2027 at the company’s Louisville Assembly Complex in Kentucky. Chief Executive Jim Farley said the new model will be the first in a family of low-cost EVs built on what he called the “Ford Universal EV Platform.” Speaking on The Verge’s Decoder podcast, Farley described the new approach as “a breakthrough for developing and delivering an affordable electric platform to customers,”…

E.ON has launched a pilot project for a digital reservation system that allows electric truck drivers and fleet operators to book charging stops in advance, aiming to reduce waiting times and improve route planning for long-haul transport. The system enables charging stops to be scheduled either by drivers themselves or by logistics dispatchers, using a web app on mobile devices or computers. Reservations block the charging station for a 15-minute window, and drivers can unlock the charger upon arrival through the app. If delays occur, the slot can be rescheduled, while unused reservations expire after the grace period to free…
The Cologne Transport Authority (KVB) has placed Germany’s largest order yet for electric buses from Spanish manufacturer Irizar e-mobility, agreeing to purchase 78 vehicles as it accelerates efforts to electrify its fleet. The order includes 38 articulated buses and 40 solo buses, with deliveries scheduled to begin in October 2026. KVB already operates 118 electric buses built by Dutch manufacturer VDL, and with the latest purchase, nearly two-thirds of its company-owned fleet will run on electric power. When subcontracted buses are included, the share will rise to almost half. See also: Gatwick Airport to Introduce Fully Electric Shuttle Bus Fleet…
Stellantis has scrapped plans to launch the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee, the brand’s range-topping electric muscle car, according to a report from Mopar Insiders. The move marks another step in the automaker’s shift back toward combustion engines and hybrid powertrains. First shown as a concept in 2022, the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee was promoted by Dodge as a breakthrough in electric performance. The company said at the time that the vehicle “muscles aside the boring BEV paradigm” and would deliver output exceeding that of the SRT Hellcat. Built on an 800V platform, the production model was expected to top…
Nissan Motor said it has cancelled plans to build two new electric vehicles at its Canton, Mississippi plant from 2028, and will instead evaluate the production of hybrid SUVs at the facility starting the same year. The decision marks a reversal of Nissan’s earlier strategy to expand U.S. EV output, which had already faced delays due to weakening demand. In April 2025, the company postponed production schedules for two electric crossovers, internally known as PZ1K and PZ1J, to 2028, while scrapping plans for two sedans and a smaller SUV. The move follows the suspension of the federal tax credit on…
Leyland Trucks said it has completed its £5.1 million Zero Emissions Truck Testing Automation (ZETTA) project, enabling the company to expand production capacity for battery-electric trucks under the DAF brand. The project, supported by the UK’s Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC), was designed to accelerate the country’s transition to zero-emission road transport and strengthen Leyland Trucks’ position in clean commercial vehicle manufacturing. The company, which has been part of Dutch truck maker DAF since 1987, no longer produces vehicles under its own name but builds DAF models, including electric variants. Toyota said it plans to install an additional 500 high-powered electric vehicle (EV) chargers at its dealerships across Japan by March 2026, as the automaker works to expand its charging infrastructure despite falling short of earlier commitments. The company currently operates about 390 fast chargers and 3,800 regular chargers at its dealerships nationwide. The latest target will bring its network to nearly 900 fast chargers, but it remains behind a 2021 pledge to equip all 5,000 Japanese dealerships with fast chargers by the end of 2025. Quebec will scale back its plan to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles entirely by 2035, instead setting a target for 90% of new light-duty vehicle sales to be zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). The move comes as electric vehicle adoption slows across Canada, affected by rising prices and the expiration of incentive programs. Under the revised policy, plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) will qualify fully toward compliance, while conventional hybrids will receive partial credit. The change leaves room for conventional or hybrid vehicles in the remaining 10% of sales. See also: Canada and China Hold “Constructive” Trade Talks on EVs,…
