Liofit, a company specialising in the repair and recycling of e-bike batteries, has started construction of a new headquarters in Kamenz, Saxony, with operations expected to begin next year on a site of about 1,000 square metres.
The family-owned business, founded in 2023 by Dr. Ralf Günther, said the new centre will expand production capacity, optimise processes, and create additional space for research, development and jobs. The company expects demand to increase across Europe following the EU’s new battery regulation, which introduces binding recycling quotas.
“With the new building, we are creating the basis for saving even more batteries from being scrapped and thus actively conserving resources,” Günther said. He added that Liofit plans to set up a pilot plant combining repair and recycling to bring development results directly into production.
Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Dirk Panter, and Thomas Horn, Managing Director of Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH (WFS), attended the foundation stone ceremony. “Liofit GmbH from Kamenz is a Lusatian success story with a reach far beyond the region,” Horn said, noting that the company had grown from a workshop to one of the leading providers of repair and reconditioning services for e-bike batteries.
Earlier this year, Liofit presented its new “all-in-one” diagnostic tool at the Eurobike trade fair in Frankfurt, designed to read and programme common batteries from multiple manufacturers at the push of a button. The company said the device simplifies on-site initial diagnostics and enhances service efficiency.
