The southern Indian state of Telangana plans to retrofit 240 diesel buses in its public transport fleet with electric powertrains, as part of a broader push to reduce emissions and modernize urban mobility, officials said. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSGRTC), the state-owned operator, issued a tender in September for the conversion project. Hyderabad-based Sai Green Mobility Pvt. JSW MG Motor plans to invest up to $440 million (about €372 million) to expand manufacturing capacity and accelerate new vehicle launches in India, focusing on electrified models as its main growth driver, according to comments by Managing Director Anurag Mehrotra reported by Reuters. Tata Technologies said its battery intelligence platform WATTSync is prepared to comply with India’s forthcoming Battery Aadhaar framework, which will introduce mandatory digital identification and traceability for electric vehicle batteries. The system can generate and manage the required 21-character Battery Pack Aadhaar Number (BPAN) while remaining aligned with the EU Battery Regulation, the company said. Under the proposed rules, batteries will carry QR-code-linked digital identities that track them throughout their lifecycle—from manufacturing and deployment to recycling. India has deployed 225 electric buses across multiple cities as part of a broader effort to decarbonise public transport, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagging off the vehicles on Feb. 14. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has selected Mobileye Global Inc. to supply its SuperVision and Surround advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for at least six upcoming vehicle models starting in 2027, the companies said. Both platforms will be powered by Mobileye’s EyeQ6 High system-on-chip (SoC), with Mobileye serving as the Tier 1 supplier across all programs. Kochi Airport in the southern Indian state of Kerala plans to introduce three hydrogen-powered buses, becoming the first airport in India to commercialise the use of hydrogen buses for regular operations. Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), which owns and operates Kochi Airport, has signed a memorandum of agreement with Kerala’s Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster (HVIC) to implement the project. India is preparing to offer incentives to companies to set up lithium and nickel processing plants, aiming to boost domestic output of critical minerals needed for its energy transition and growing electric vehicle market, according to two sources and a government presentation reviewed by Reuters. India has launched a new tender to deploy 6,230 electric buses across five major cities, as the government steps up efforts to decarbonise urban public transport, according to Convergence Energy Services Limited. Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a green energy-focused arm of the Indian government, said bids will be accepted until March 10.
