Indian electric commercial vehicle solutions provider Energy In Motion (EIM) has secured a contract to deploy 66 electric heavy-duty trucks, partnering with Transvolt Mobility to support port logistics operations. Under the agreement, EIM will supply its 55-tonne electric tractor, Ashwa, which is based on technology from Foton. The trucks will be deployed at Kandla Port in Gujarat and Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra, where they will be used to transport cargo containers within port premises. French automotive supplier Valeo has inaugurated a new production line for electric drive systems at its plant in Pune, India, as part of its strategy to expand localized EV component manufacturing. The facility will produce 3-in-1 e-axles for Mahindra, integrating the electric motor, inverter and transmission into a single compact unit. The components will be used in Mahindra’s electric vehicles under its “Born Electric” program. The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has extended subsidy support for electric two-wheelers and rickshaws under the PM E-DRIVE programme, while adjusting funding allocations and vehicle targets within the scheme. The PM E-DRIVE initiative — short for Prime Minister’s Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement — was launched in September 2024 to support the adoption of low-emission transport technologies across India, including electric trucks, buses, ambulances and charging infrastructure. Ashok Leyland has started construction of a new battery pack manufacturing facility in southern India, as it moves to strengthen its position in electric mobility and energy storage. The plant will be located at SIPCOT Pillaipakkam Industrial Park near Chennai and represents an initial investment of 4–5 billion rupees (approximately €37–46 million). KKR has committed up to $310 million to India’s electric bus sector, investing in PMI Electro Mobility and its operating platform Allfleet as part of its global climate strategy. The investment, made through KKR’s Global Climate Transition Fund, marks the fund’s first deployment in India. Mahindra & Mahindra’s charging arm Charge_iN has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across India, leveraging the oil major’s extensive fuel station network. Under the agreement, the partners plan to install high-power charging systems featuring 180 kW dual-gun technology at HPCL sites. GreenCell Mobility plans to deploy 75 battery-electric buses for public transport in Puducherry as part of India’s national electrification programme for urban bus fleets. The project will operate under the government’s PM-eBus Sewa Scheme and was announced during an event in the city by Narendra Modi. The southern Indian state of Telangana plans to retrofit 240 diesel buses in its public transport fleet with electric powertrains, as part of a broader push to reduce emissions and modernize urban mobility, officials said. Tata Technologies said its battery intelligence platform WATTSync is prepared to comply with India’s forthcoming Battery Aadhaar framework, which will introduce mandatory digital identification and traceability for electric vehicle batteries. The system can generate and manage the required 21-character Battery Pack Aadhaar Number (BPAN) while remaining aligned with the EU Battery Regulation, the company said. Under the proposed rules, batteries will carry QR-code-linked digital identities that track them throughout their lifecycle—from manufacturing and deployment to recycling.
