India’s electric car market gathered significant momentum in 2025, with sales rising 77% from a year earlier as the country continued to expand its public charging infrastructure, supporting a gradual shift toward electric mobility. India’s major metropolitan centres Delhi and Chennai commissioned more than 200 electric buses this week, stepping up efforts to decarbonise public transport and curb air pollution as part of broader urban mobility programmes. Chinese electric vehicle maker Skyworth Auto has begun preparations to enter the Indian electric vehicle market, appointing Hyderabad-based Kaly Emotors Pvt. Ltd. as its local partner, the company said. Skyworth said it signed a framework cooperation agreement with Kaly Emotors on Nov. 27, under which the Indian firm will support the planning and launch of a new energy passenger vehicle, as well as localisation, technical adaptation and market development. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has introduced 65 new electric buses into service in Hyderabad, advancing efforts to reduce emissions and modernize public transport in one of South India’s largest metropolitan areas. The buses were manufactured by Olectra Greentech Ltd., a subsidiary of Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd.
