Autel Energy said its MaxiCharger technology is supporting South Africa’s largest public EV bus charging project at the Arrowgate Depot in Cape Town, where the company is working with STS Tech Group to expand charging infrastructure for a 120-bus fleet by 2025.

The site currently operates 30 MaxiCharger DC Fast units with power ratings between 150 and 240 kW and will grow to 50 by the end of the year, enabling the transition of the full fleet. Sixty-eight BYD B12 buses, each with a 240-km range and capacity for 65 passengers, are already in service.

Autel said the project will reduce around 18,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to removing over 4,000 cars from the city’s roads. The Arrowgate Depot integrates solar and grid power to provide reliable charging and features modular equipment design, remote monitoring, and multiple connector options.

Mike Pritchard, CEO of STS Tech Group, said: “Autel has proven itself to be a truly world-class product, combining innovative technology with reliability and performance.”

Kemin Zuo, Regional Director of Autel IMEA DMCC, added: “This project in Cape Town is a milestone not only for Africa but for the global transition to clean mobility.”

Cape Town’s bus electrification drive is part of South Africa’s broader sustainability strategy, with the new hub seen as a key step in scaling clean transport solutions across the region.
