Audi and Porsche are set to take their electrification strategy to new heights with their latest big push towards electric vehicles. This effort will be powered by the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which will serve as the architecture for several upcoming models from both carmakers.

According to Porsche, the PPE platform was developed collaboratively and shares similarities with Volkswagen’s MQB and MEB platforms. The MQB platform has already underpinned over 32 million vehicles and has proven to be highly flexible, delivering economies of scale and reduced component costs. The PPE platform is expected to follow suit and enable Porsche to launch high-volume models with high technical standards and profitability.

The PPE platform’s flexibility will also offer a lot of leeway when it comes to wheelbase, track width, and ground clearance. This will allow for a variety of performance levels for models with either rear- or all-wheel drive in different segments. While Porsche has been tight-lipped about specifics, they have confirmed that PPE-based vehicles will boast a maximum output of 603 hp (450 kW / 612 PS) and 737+ lb-ft (1,000+ Nm) of torque.

The first PPE-based vehicle from Porsche will be the Macan EV. It will feature 800-volt technology, advanced battery and charge management, and powerful electric motors. Porsche has designed the Macan EV to be the sportiest vehicle in its segment, offering best-in-class driving performances, high-power fast charging, and a range suitable for long-distance travel.
