The Audi activesphere concept car is a true fusion of form and function, offering the best of several worlds. This luxurious sports car boasts a sleek design, high ground clearance, and large 22-inch wheels, but can also navigate rough terrain with ease. With the touch of a button, its Sportback rear transforms into an open cargo bed, perfect for carrying sporting equipment, like e-bikes or winter sports gear.
Powered by Audi’s PPE modular system, the activesphere is a zero-emission electric vehicle with a range of over 600 km on a single charge, thanks to fast charging technology. The 800-volt system allows for quick charging times, making the activesphere a sustainable, dynamic, and long-range option.
One of the most innovative features of the activesphere is its use of augmented reality, known as Audi dimensions. This technology blends the physical and virtual worlds, displaying digital content in real-time in the driver’s and passengers’ fields of vision. The car’s high-tech headsets provide a view of the real environment and route while also displaying 3D content and interactive elements.
The activesphere is also equipped with autonomous driving capabilities on suitable terrain, allowing the driver to have a more relaxed driving experience. The mixed reality optics and touch-sensitive zones, visible only through the headsets, provide a minimalist and futuristic way to interact with the car’s controls.
Designed and developed at the Audi Design Studio in Malibu, the activesphere is the brainchild of Studio Manager Gael Buzyn and his team. Buzyn calls the activesphere “unique” and a “new type of crossover” that blends the elegance of a Sportback, the practicality of an SUV, and true off-road capabilities.
