Alfa Romeo has announced a significant power boost for its top-tier Junior Veloce EV, raising the electric motor’s output to an impressive 278 hp (207 kW / 280 PS), up from the previously stated 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS). This update follows the completion of the car’s dynamic development program, revealing enhanced performance capabilities.

The carmaker also revealed that the motor produces 345 Nm (255 lb-ft) of torque, further enhancing the vehicle’s performance credentials. The substantial increase in power, from 237 hp to 278 hp, is notable, especially for a model aiming to cement its sporty image.

Initially, the Junior Veloce was expected to share its single electric motor with the Abarth 600e and the Lancia Ypsilon HF supermini. It remains uncertain whether Abarth and Lancia will follow Alfa Romeo’s lead in upgrading their own models’ output ratings following additional tests or stick to the original 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS).

In addition to its powerful electric motor, the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce features a suspension lowered by 25 mm (1 inch) compared to other trims. It is equipped with front and rear anti-roll bars, a Torsen differential on the front axle, and high-performance 20-inch tires. The steering is described as highly direct, and the braking system includes larger 380 mm (15 inches) front discs with four-piston monobloc calipers.

These enhancements allow the Junior Veloce to deliver top-tier driving dynamics, comparable to the now-discontinued Giulietta and Mito hatchbacks.

The next significant milestone for the Junior is its first round of press tests, scheduled to take place at the Balocco Proving Ground. This event is particularly noteworthy as the model has yet to undergo the ‘type-approval phase.’ Journalists will get their first driving experience on the Langhe circuit configuration, which spans over 20 km (12 miles), offering a comprehensive assessment of the vehicle’s capabilities.
