Chinese automaker Aiways has equipped the U6 with the same 63 kWh battery pack as the U5, complete with 24 CATL modules that can be charged at speeds of up to 90 kW at a DC fast charging station.
This battery then drives a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with 215 hp (160 kW) and 232 lb-ft (315 Nm) of torque. Aiways says the sleek SUV can travel up to 400 km (249 miles) on a single charge under WLTP testing with average energy consumption being between 15.9 kWh/100 km and 16.6 kWh/100 km.
Charging the Aiways U6 from 30 to 80 percent takes about 30 minutes via a 90 kW DC fast charger. This SUV can reach speeds from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in less than seven seconds.
Inside the Aiways U6 there are a number of impressive technologies. At the center is a 14.6-inch infotainment screen. For the digital instrument cluster, Aiways uses a narrow 8.2-inch screen behind the wheel.
Aiways has also equipped the U6 with a complex lighting system, which can create 360 āādifferent lighting scenes.
Other interesting aspects of the car’s interior include the partially hidden air vents at the front and the gear lever on the center console which is inspired by the levers of luxury cruise ships. Aiways has also equipped the U6 with unique seats with reinforced side and back bolsters.
The infotainment system that Aiways uses is dubbed AI-Tech and runs Android-based software to give it a familiar feel. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported.
“Aiways has grown tremendously in a short time and we are very pleased with the foundation we have laid in Europe,” vice president of Overseas Operations at Aiways, Dr. Alexander Klose said in a statement.
“By the end of 2022, we are targeting sales of at least five digits thanks to the growing popularity of the U5 SUV, as well as through the new SUV-CoupĆ© U6 model. The Aiways story has only just begun. We are proud that our products are manufactured in China to international standards, and I believe this has been a hallmark of our technological excellence. Our U5 SUV has made a strong impression on the highly competitive European market.” continued Klose
High-tech features, modern designs, advanced electric car technology and affordable prices make it an attractive option for first-time electric car buyers.
Prices for the Aiways U6 in Germany start at 41,001 euros or the equivalent of ā¬6,500 with a tax subsidy or ā¬47,501 without a tax subsidy.
This price tag places the Aiways U6 as a competitor to the VW ID.5, which is priced starting at ā¬ 47,935. Deliveries will begin in the first half of 2023.
