Project EV Unveils 1 MW Charger with Vehicle-to-Grid Capability for Commercial Fleets

UK-based charge point supplier Project EV has introduced a new 1 MW charger designed for high-demand commercial applications, targeting sectors such as fleet operations, highway rest stops, and logistics hubs. The charger, which incorporates advanced vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, aims to help electrified commercial fleets reduce total ownership costs while offering an additional revenue stream through grid services.

The charging solution, developed in collaboration with the UK Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and Innovate UK, supports up to ten outlets. Compatible with both liquid-cooled and air-cooled systems, the charger is described as one of the first of its kind in the UK. It plays a key role in the “Electric Heavy Goods Vehicles ā€“ first roll-out and demonstration of V2X and grid decarbonisation” project, which explores the potential of electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) to support grid stability through load-balancing, frequency stabilisation, and resilience enhancements.

Richard Pink, Chief Technology Officer at Project EV, highlighted the chargerā€™s versatility and innovation: ā€œWe are immensely proud of the cutting-edge hardware weā€™ve developed, featuring exceptional versatility with multiple charging guns tailored to meet diverse customer requirements. This project represents a major milestone in the journey toward sustainable transportation and the decarbonisation of our energy systems.ā€

The initiative, led by Kaasai Services with Ā£1.4 million in government funding, underscores the UKā€™s push to integrate V2X capabilities into electric transportation. By enabling bi-directional energy flow, the project aims to demonstrate significant cost savings for heavy-duty fleet operators while contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy grid.
