Yangwang, the premium sub-brand of Chinese automaker BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), has commenced pre-sales for its U7 sedan at the 2024 Guangzhou auto show. The U7, which is the third model from Yangwang, is available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions. Customers can reserve the vehicle for a payment of 20,000 yuan ($2,770), though the company has not yet disclosed the pre-sale pricing.
The Yangwang U7 was first unveiled at the 2024 Beijing auto show in April, where the brand indicated that the flagship sedan would be priced in the RMB 1 million range. While Yangwang has not released detailed pricing, the model is expected to compete in the ultra-luxury segment.
The U7 is a performance-oriented vehicle, boasting up to 1,300 horsepower. According to Yangwang, the sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 270 kilometers per hour. The vehicle features a braking distance of 33 meters from 100 km/h and a minimum turning radius of 4.85 meters.
The BEV variant of the U7 is equipped with a high-performance 135.5 kWh blade battery pack, exclusive to the model. This battery pack is capable of delivering a range of 720 kilometers under the Chinese Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). Additionally, the U7 supports simultaneous charging with two charging guns, reaching up to 500 kW, which allows the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
Yangwang has not provided further specifics on the battery technology, though an auto blogger recently suggested that the U7 may utilize BYD’s second-generation blade batteries, which could feature a charging multiplier of more than 5.5 C and a discharging multiplier of over 14 C. Meanwhile, the PHEV version of the U7 is powered by a 52.4 kWh battery pack, with a maximum charging power of 210 kW and a combined range of up to 1,000 kilometers on full fuel and charge.
The U7 features BYD’s DiSus-Z intelligent body control system, which is designed to enhance ride comfort with ultra-fast regulation, responding in as little as 10 milliseconds. This system is a part of BYD’s DiSus technology suite, which includes various intelligent suspension and body control systems.
Yangwang, which was launched by BYD in January 2023, aims to target the high-end market with vehicles priced around the RMB 1 million mark. The brand has already released the U8 off-road SUV and the U9 electric supercar, expanding its lineup to meet the demand for luxury electric vehicles.
