Tesla recently marked the five-year anniversary of its Gigafactory in Berlin, showcasing the facility’s achievements since CEO Elon Musk announced the project on November 12, 2019. Despite initial challenges, including regulatory delays and the pandemic, Giga Berlin commenced production of the Model Y in early 2022 and has since made significant strides.
According to Tesla Manufacturing’s recent video on social media platform X, Gigafactory Berlin has produced over 400,000 Model Y units to date, along with more than 500,000 drive units. These vehicles are shipped to 37 countries, helping Tesla expand its footprint across multiple markets. The facility currently employs around 12,000 workers from diverse backgrounds.

Tesla emphasized Giga Berlin’s sustainability efforts, highlighting that the facility recycles over 90% of its process wastewater and has generated 6.9 GWh of solar energy. Additionally, Tesla has planted over 2 million trees in the area to offset its environmental impact, covering over 300 hectares.
Employee welfare has been a priority as well, with more than 270,000 trips provided through shuttle buses and an electric Giga Train introduced earlier this year. On-site amenities include a gym and a relaxation space known as the “Rave Cave,” promoting well-being for the workforce at Giga Berlin.
