Tesla’s latest software update, 2024.38.4, introduces a new feature for Track Mode V3 called Powertrain Endurance, aimed at optimizing performance during extended track sessions, the company confirmed. The addition reflects Tesla’s continued refinement of Track Mode, which initially debuted in 2018 to enhance the track performance of its electric vehicles (EVs).
As EV community reports and screenshots show, Powertrain Endurance allows drivers to customize their vehicle’s performance output with three settings: Standard, Increased, and Maximum. According to Tesla, the Standard setting provides peak output, though performance may be quickly limited due to thermal management constraints.

✅ Increased: medium sessions
✅ Maximum: endurance https://t.co/h4rX6F7EGp pic.twitter.com/qjBmToNLeS— Tesla Newswire (@TeslaNewswire) October 28, 2024
The Increased option strikes a balance, sustaining higher performance over multiple laps, while the Maximum setting reduces peak output, extending vehicle endurance for prolonged track sessions.
“Maximize performance for your driving distance by limiting power as speed increases to improve thermal management,” Tesla notes in its update description. Powertrain Endurance may appeal to Tesla owners who push their vehicles to the limit on extensive tracks like Germany’s Nürburgring, where thermal throttling has previously limited multi-lap capabilities.
With these new endurance-focused settings, Tesla is addressing a common challenge for battery-electric vehicles on the track: the tendency to reduce power as temperatures rise. By offering selectable endurance modes, Tesla aims to provide a tailored track experience for drivers, enhancing the car’s capability during high-performance driving.
