Kia has disclosed the pricing for its upcoming EV5 midsize electric SUV in Australia, positioning it as a competitive alternative to the Tesla Model Y.
Originally set for a June release, the EV5 launch was delayed due to issues with software and wheels. These have now been resolved, with the first trims expected to hit the market soon. The Air and Earth variants will arrive shortly, followed by two GT-Line versions slated for a December launch.
According to the Kia Australia website, the entry-level FWD Air Standard Range trim will be available with a starting drive-away price of A$56,770, making it more affordable than the Tesla Model Y, which starts at A$60,868. The FWD Air Long Range version, which offers an extended WLTP range of up to 555 km (~345 miles) compared to the Standard Range’s 400 km (~249 miles), is priced at A$63,990.
Meanwhile, the AWD Earth trim, offering a range of up to 500 km (~310 miles), comes in at A$69,990. The Earth trim also features additional upgrades such as larger 19-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, and an exterior vehicle-to-load (V2L) port.
At the top end, the EV5 GT-Line and EV5 GT-Line Two-Tone trims are priced at A$77,990. These high-spec variants come with premium features, including 20-inch alloy wheels, a heads-up display, blind-spot camera, fingerprint authenticator, and massage seats.
While the exact release dates are still uncertain, the rollout of the EV5 across Australia is imminent, and there is anticipation about its availability in other markets.
