Lamborghini Affirms Commitment to Combustion Engines Amid Future Transition to Electric Vehicles

Lamborghini’s technical officer, Rouven Mohr, has confirmed that the brand will continue to focus on high-capacity combustion engines for the foreseeable future, despite the automotive industry’s expected shift towards electric vehicles (EVs).

In a recent interview with Motor1, Mohr noted that the current market conditions are not conducive to launching an electric supercar, stating, “At the moment, now, the time would not be right [for an EV], at least not in a super sports car. You have seen a lot of [electric] cars on the market that were not really successful.”

The Italian luxury automaker currently offers three hybrid models: the Revuelto, Temerario, and Urus SE, all of which feature powerful combustion engines that have become synonymous with the Lamborghini brand. Mohr expressed satisfaction with the existing lineup, emphasizing that the company can thrive for the next decade with its hybrid offerings.

However, he acknowledged that a transition to electric power is inevitable. “But I also believe Lamborghini needs to have the transition [to electric power], because it’s only a question of time when the mindset will change,” he said.

Looking ahead, Lamborghini’s first electric vehicle is set to be inspired by the Lanzador Concept and is scheduled for release in 2028. While details remain limited, Mohr assured that the company is focused on delivering the excitement and performance that customers expect from the brand.

“You can be sure when we bring the first electric Lamborghini, we will be very careful in managing the brand’s attributes,” he remarked. He added, “We are not thinking to bring another standard electric car, one megawatt of power. It’s not like this. You need a differentiation.”
