Lamborghini has confirmed it will stop production of internal combustion engines in 2022. The luxury carmaker will reportedly focus on launching plug-in models in the Aventador, Huracan and Urus SUV series next year.

This was confirmed directly by the Chief Executive Officer of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann. He explained that almost all models of internal combustion engines were sold out this year.

“This will be the last time we will offer only internal combustion engines,” said Winkelmann, Monday, January 24, 2022.

Lamborghini itself is known to have allocated $1.7 billion to develop plug-in hybrid cars and electric cars in the second half of this decade. Winklemann also explained that his party is still working on the final design for its first electric car.

Several previous reports also mentioned that Lamborghini will introduce four new cars this year. The three new luxury cars include the Huracan STO, the Aventador series and the Countach LPI 800-4.

Apart from that, Lamborghini is known to have shipped 8,405 units throughout 2021. The Lamborghini Urus SUV is reported to be the model that contributed the most to their car sales, amounting to 5,201 units.
