Zeon Charging, one of India’s largest charging point operators (CPOs), has announced a partnership with Finnish hardware provider Kempower to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the country. The collaboration has already resulted in the establishment of the first charging site.
The partnership aims to develop over 20 charging hubs utilizing Kempowerâs satellite charging systems, which offer power outputs ranging from 200 to 520 kW and are equipped with six to eight DC connectors. Rahul S, Franchise Manager of Zeon Charging, indicated that the company sources its DC chargers from Finland, where Kempower operates three EV charging solutions factories in Lahti and an additional facility in Durham, USA.
The inaugural charging hub has been set up in Sira, a town in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, and features three Kempower DC chargers alongside an ABB DC charger. The Kempower units include two charging guns each and can deliver charging power of up to 200 kW.
Zeon Charging is also active in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra, boasting a network of approximately 350 DC fast chargers and 100 AC chargers nationwide. Akhil Venkateshwaran, Director and CTO of Zeon Charging, expressed enthusiasm for the rollout, stating, âWe are excited to roll out the Kempower Satellite charging systems along some of our important highway stations in our own DC charger network and continue to provide the Indian customer with a premium, hassle-free experience.â
In an interview, Hari Krishna, Business Development Executive at Zeon Charging, revealed plans to expand into Telangana, followed by northern and eastern states in the coming years. He emphasized that the company strategically selects high-traffic locations for its charging stations. For instance, the Sira site is located in the parking lot of Paakashala, a well-known restaurant chain along the Bengaluru-Pune highway. Zeon Charging also partners with IT parks, malls, shopping complexes, resorts, and residential complexes. Krishna noted, âWe focus on deploying our chargers on major highways, enabling EV customers to travel longer distances without range anxiety.â
Additionally, Glida (formerly Fortum Charge & Drive India) is utilizing Kempowerâs EV chargers in India. Recently, the company installed Kempower units at a new charging station in Shamshabad, near Hyderabad Airport in Telangana, which is capable of serving 102 EVs. The facility includes a powerful 200 kW DC charger equipped with six satellite dispensers.
