Fisker has continued its struggle for survival with another round of price cuts, even as its first electric vehicle, the Ocean, finds some success in the market.
The company has announced that the 2023 Ocean Sport, its entry-level model, has sold out in the continental United States. Originally priced at $38,999, the Ocean Sport saw its price slashed to $24,999 in March, a move that helped drive sales.
Although the Sport variant is no longer available, Fisker is offering discounts on the remaining Extreme and Ultra trims. Customers will now benefit from a waiver of the $2,438 destination and handling fee, marking another reduction in prices. Just two months ago, both trims had their prices cut, with the Ocean Extreme dropping from $61,499 to $37,499, and the Ocean Ultra reduced from $52,999 to $34,999.
In addition to the price cuts, Fisker has announced the addition of three new “dealer partner” locations, bringing the total to 15 locations in the United States. The new locations include Fisker of San Jose, Newport Fisker in California, and Belford Fisker in New Jersey.
A Fisker spokesperson expressed excitement about the new dealer partners, stating, “Expanding our dealer presence in our home state of California is a priority for us, and customers can now see the all-electric Ocean SUV in person in both Southern California and the Bay Area.” The spokesperson also emphasized the value offered to customers with the waiver of the destination and handling fee on 2023 Extremes and Ultras.
Despite the enticing price cuts, Fisker faces significant challenges. Its Austrian subsidiary, Fisker GmbH, filed for bankruptcy earlier this month, and Magna, which was producing the Ocean, has ceased production and does not expect it to resume.
Fisker’s future remains uncertain, with the company struggling to stay afloat amid financial difficulties and production challenges.
