Last May, Ford became the first automaker to announce its plans to adopt Tesla’s charge connector, now known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS). In a bid to enhance accessibility for electric vehicle (EV) owners, Ford also revealed its intention to provide a free adapter to existing Ford EV owners.
Starting today, eligible Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning owners can request their free CCS to NACS adapter. Deliveries are expected to commence in March. Concurrently, Ford is initiating a software update that unlocks Tesla Supercharger support for Mach-E and Lightning vehicles.

“Today, Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E retail customers are the first of any non-Tesla automaker to gain access to Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada,” Ford announced.
The CCS to NACS adapter will be available for free from February 29 through June 30 for new and existing Ford EV drivers. Post this period, the adapter will be available for purchase at a retail price of $230.

To request an adapter, Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning drivers can visit Ford’s website, log in with their Ford account to confirm and validate their VIN, and request the adapter. Enrolling in the BlueOval Charge Network, which is free, is also required.
The adapter supports fast charging at Tesla V3 Superchargers, offering access to “more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada.” However, it does not support Tesla V2 Superchargers or Tesla Destination Chargers. The adapter enables charging at up to the full 150kW fast charging speed of the Mach-E and Lightning.

In addition to the adapter, Tesla Superchargers will support Plug & Charge for Ford EVs, allowing for automatic charging initiation upon plugging in. This feature will be accessible through the FordPass app, Charge Assist App, Apple Maps EV Routing, Google Maps EV Routing, and Ford Connected Built-In Navigation.
Ford operates the “largest public charging network” in North America through its BlueOval Charge Network, consisting of over 126,000 total chargers across over 35,000 locations, including over 28,000 DC fast chargers at more than 7,500 locations.
