Mercedes-Benz Trucks, in partnership with Autobahn GmbH, recently conducted a rigorous assessment of the eActros 600, an electric truck, in challenging winter conditions. This collaborative effort aimed to evaluate the vehicle’s performance and capabilities during winter service operations, particularly in the context of preventive measures against icy road conditions.
The testing, which took place in early February, involved utilizing a prototype of the eActros 600 on a designated section of the A2 highway between Hamm and Bielefeld. Autobahn GmbH, equipped with a specially provided semitrailer from Epoke, employed the vehicle to spread brine as an alternative to traditional road salt. This brine, made from a mixture of water and salt, serves as a proactive solution to mitigate the formation of ice on road surfaces.

The semitrailer, designed to spread brine at high speeds of up to 80 km/h across a width of 12 meters, operates independently of the eActros 600’s tractor unit. Controlled remotely via a radio remote control system, the semitrailer effectively demonstrated its ability to distribute brine in a precise and efficient manner during the testing process.
The eActros 600, tailored for long-haul transport, offers promising features for sustainable mobility. With a robust battery capacity exceeding 600 kilowatt hours and an advanced electric drive axle, the vehicle boasts an impressive range of 500 kilometers without the need for intermediate charging. Moreover, its environmental credentials are noteworthy, with significant reductions in CO2 emissions compared to conventional diesel-powered counterparts.
