Electric vehicle (EV) giant Tesla has reportedly exhausted its inventory of the Model Y Standard Range configuration in China for the remainder of 2023. The move comes as Tesla strives to achieve its ambitious goal of delivering 1.8 million vehicles worldwide by the end of the year.
China has emerged as a key market for Tesla, with consistently high demand propelling the automaker to prominent positions in sales rankings. The Model 3 and Model Y have played a pivotal role in driving EV adoption in the country, making China one of the leading adopters of electric vehicles globally.

While the Model 3 was once Tesla’s flagship model, the Model Y has surpassed it in popularity, likely attributed to the growing preference for crossover body styles. In the Chinese market, the entry-level Standard Range variant of the Model Y has become the first to sell out for the remainder of the year, as confirmed by Tesla’s Chinese social media team.
Tesla is actively working towards its delivery target for 2023, following upgrades implemented at its factories in the third quarter. Despite experiencing its first quarter-over-quarter delivery decrease in several years, Tesla remains focused on meeting its ambitious delivery goals.
China continues to be a strategic focus for Tesla, with the country significantly contributing to the company’s overall sales and delivery performance in recent years.
