Xpeng, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced the completion of its 233rd S4 supercharging station in Zhangzhou, situated in the southeastern province of Fujian, China. With this milestone, Xpeng has extended its ultrafast charging network’s reach to encompass 100 cities across the country.

Xpeng has expanded its charging infrastructure to encompass more than 1,000 Xpeng-branded charging stations, offering both supercharging and destination charging options. The company’s S4 supercharging stations have collectively provided over 470,110 services to date. Furthermore, Xpeng has outlined its intention to equip all forthcoming self-operated supercharging stations with S4 charging capabilities.

The journey towards this achievement commenced on August 15, 2022, when Xpeng inaugurated its inaugural S4 supercharging station. Promoted as capable of delivering a 210-kilometer range to vehicles in just five minutes, the station is equipped with a maximum power capacity of 480 kW and a peak current of 670 A, as per Xpeng’s Chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng.

In comparison, Tesla’s V3 charger, a prominent competitor in the electric vehicle charging sector, offers a maximum power output of 250 kW and a peak current of 631 A, enabling a range of 150 kilometers to be attained within a five-minute charging session.

Xpeng is actively pursuing its growth objectives by targeting the installation of over 500 S4 ultra-fast charging stations throughout 2023. This figure is anticipated to exceed 2,000 by 2025, in line with the company’s announcement during its G9 launch event on September 21, 2022. A recent promotional poster indicates Xpeng’s aspiration to elevate this target further, aiming for a total of 3,000 self-operated sites equipped with ultra-fast charging capabilities by 2025.

Xpeng’s proactive approach is evidenced by its ongoing charging station upgrade program, initiated this year, which focuses on retrofitting older charging sites to accommodate S4 ultra-fast charging. As part of this initiative, over 160 sites have been successfully upgraded, enhancing their charging capabilities.

In the domain of vehicle deliveries, Xpeng reported a notable increase in July, delivering 11,008 vehicles—a 27.70% rise from the previous month’s figure of 8,620. This marks the sixth consecutive month of delivery growth for Xpeng. However, July’s figures remained 4.48% lower compared to the same month in the previous year. This positive trajectory follows a decline to 5,218 units in January earlier in the year, indicating the company’s capacity to navigate market dynamics.
