Privateer, a renowned UK-based manufacturer of top-quality mountain bikes, continues to make waves in the industry by offering performance-oriented designs at accessible prices. The brand has established a strong presence in the competitive enduro MTB scene, with athletes proudly racing under the Privateer banner.
Challenging the norms of mainstream marques, Privateer’s bikes boast remarkable technology and features that rival those found in higher-priced counterparts. Expanding their product line, the brand has ventured into the flourishing electric mountain bike segment with the launch of their latest innovation, the E-161. This remarkable e-bike was conceived at the request of EWS racer Matt Stuttard, who sought a capable enduro bike for training, accompanied by the convenience of an electric boost to tackle challenging terrains effortlessly.
The opportunity to create this groundbreaking e-bike arose when Privateer joined forces with industry giant Shimano. Thus, the birth of the E-161 electric enduro became a reality. Packed with premium technology that is typically expected from a race-ready enduro mountain bike, the E-161 features the powerful Shimano EP801 electric motor. With an impressive torque output of 85 Newton-meters and a peak power of 500 watts, this motor ensures exceptional performance on any trail. Complementing the motor is a Shimano 630-watt-hour power pack, offering reliable and enduring battery life.
Crafted with a sturdy full-suspension frame made from 6061-T6 aluminum, the Privateer E-161 stands as an outstanding enduro machine. It incorporates a 170-millimeter Fox 38 Performance Elite E-Bike+ fork for enhanced performance, while the Fox Float X2 Performance rear shock provides an ample 161 millimeters of rear wheel travel. The bike’s mixed-wheel configuration includes a 29-inch front wheel and a 27.5-inch rear wheel, both fitted with HUNT E All-Mountain rims. Additionally, the E-161 boasts a dependable and long-lasting Shimano SLX 12-speed transmission.
The Privateer E-161 is available in a single configuration, encompassing the aforementioned high-end components. Priced at 7,499 Euros (approximately $8,385 USD), the bike offers an enticing balance between affordability and premium quality. Compared to other e-bikes of similar caliber, often surpassing the $10,000 USD mark, Privateer’s pricing strategy ensures accessibility without compromising on excellence. Pre-orders for the E-161, available in Black or Raw finishes, have already commenced, with shipping scheduled to begin in the first week of August 2023.
