Hyundai is generating a lot of buzz in the automotive industry with its upcoming release of the performance-focused Ioniq 5 N. The automaker has launched a teaser campaign ahead of the car’s debut at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed in July, building anticipation among fans and industry experts alike.
One of the most interesting aspects of the Ioniq 5 N is the fake engine noise that Hyundai has developed for the electric vehicle. Unlike other performance EVs, the virtual engine noise is not a direct copy of a combustion engine, but instead has a unique tone that grows higher during acceleration and replicates the pops and bangs when the driver lifts their foot off the throttle. The car’s downshift sounds will also be emulated when using the dedicated gearshift paddles, which serve as the interface for the Virtual Grin Shift (VGS), a feature that functions like a dual-clutch automatic transmission for electric vehicles.
Hyundai recently released the second episode of its official Ioniq 5 N teaser, which was filmed on the public roads of Seoul, Korea, and at the track where the car was tested. The teaser gives us a glimpse of some of the vehicle’s unique features, such as the N Drift Optimizer, which allows for controlled drifting on the track with the help of the e-LSD on the rear axle and the N Torque Distribution system.
The Ioniq 5 N is expected to be fitted with dual electric motors producing close to 600 hp, according to Hyundai N boss, Albert Biermann. This, along with the car’s version-specific suspension setup and stronger N-branded brakes, will make it the most track-capable Hyundai-branded production EV to date.
As the teaser campaign continues, we can expect to learn more about the Ioniq 5 N’s capabilities in the coming weeks. With its advanced features and unique sound, this highly-anticipated vehicle is sure to make a big impact when it finally hits the market.
